Zmor Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2007

From 1985 to 1995, Daniel Moore‘s ZMOORE winery was known as the preeminent New World benchmark in dry Gewurztraminer! The original winemaker for Martinelli Vineyards, Daniel worked with Martinelli‘s exceptional Gewurztraminer vines to create wine for both the Martinelli family‘s label as well as his own. Then, in 1995, with a full-time job at another Russian River Valley winery (Lynmar), Daniel decided to put ZMOORE on hold. The project was reinvented in 2005 when Jeff Morgan came on board and the two winemakers extended their partnership to include ZMOR, specialized in aromatic white wines and Pinot Noir. The new spelling of "MOR" represents Morgan‘s participation. Their Russian River Pinot is crafted stylistically as a modern expression of Pinot Noir that exemplifies the elegance they love in their favorite Burgundies. This is made possible by the unique microclimates found in the Russian River Valley, where the combined solar and maritime influences provide conditions conducive to cool-climate viticulture.

Winemaker's notes: This Pinot Noir is made largely from grapes grown at the Martinelli Seven Mules Vineyard close to River Road. A small portion of the wine is sourced from several blocks at the lower end of the Roller Coaster vineyard, which we control exclusively and from which we also make a separate designate. This lovely, supple wine offers our customers a more affordable entrée to the Russian River Valley appellation.
