Barbera d’Asti is one of the most famous DOCs in Italy's north-western Piedmont wine region. It was upgraded to its DOCG classification in 2008, adding to Piedmont's already impressive array at this highest level of Italian wine classification. The Barbera d'Asti title cover the area around the town of Asti, and exclusively focuses on red wines made from Barbera. Softer and more approachable in its youth than the Nebbiolo used to make Piedmont's most prestigious wines, Barbera is a firm favorite among winemakers and consumers alike. It is also the region's most widely planted red wine variety.
Camp du Rouss is deep red in color with garnet highlights. If offers textbook Barbera aromas of crushed cherry and wild berry jam, followed by notes of leather and herbs, and a hint of smoke. On the palate, Camp du Rouss is bright, with luscious, soft tannins. The supple layers of fruit are backed by Barbera's trademark acidity making it the ideal food wine. Recommended with meat in rich wine sauces, roastbeef, cured meats and medium-aged cheese.
