Cimicky wines are renowned for their quality. This is due to their high quality grapes, their lavish use of French and American oak, and their state-of-the-art winemaking equipment.
Charles Cimicky was established in 1973 by Karl Cimicky, and is surrounded by 75 acres of vineyards. As the fruit slowly ripened on the vine it was once customary for a small group of zealous Barossa pioneers to seek the cellar retreat of an old vineyard cottage for the twin enticements of cards and claret. In cool ironstone depths of this hidden refuge, these normally hardworking and God-fearing men whiled away many a warm summer’s day playing Euchre and imbibing red wine whilst carefully concealed from the prying eyes of more diligent and puritanical souls. Now a lingering part of Barossa history, the crumbling remains of this old cottage still stand amidst ancient vines that consistently produce wines of outstanding power and richness.
The palate is refined yet full with definite white pepper spice and rich ripe berries that linger long after the wine is gone, it is a wine with a definite 'wow' factor and with under 2000 cases produced for Australia this wine is in limited supply and always 'Comes up Trumps'.
"The 2008 Trumps Shiraz was aged in predominantly new American oak for 17 months. A glass-coating purple color, it displays a smoky, toasty, spicy nose leading to a fruit-filled, succulent Shiraz with a bit of underlying structure. This lengthy effort will evolve for 1-2 years but can be enjoyed now and over the next 6-8 years."
