91 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$36 list] The toasty, mealy aromas upfront show the effects of barrel fermentation and sur-lie maturation, but those flourishes are backed by oodles of ripe fruit, ranging from pear to melon and on into citrus. Finishes crisp, with lingering notes of lemon and orange. (May 2008)"
4 stars, Michael Cooper's Guide to New Zealand Wines 2008: "Estate-grown at Bannockburn and matured for a year in French oak barriques (only 12 per cent new)... the 2006 is fresh and full-bodied, with vibrant grapefruit and lime flavours, a touch of biscuity oak and lively acidity. Showing good intensity and complexity, it should mature well. Drink: 2007-12."
One of the Elite wineries (rated "outstanding" by Robert Parker), Felton Road Wines Ltd, in Bannockburn, Central Otago, New Zealand, has planted some of the world's southernmost vineyards. The expression, "growing on the edge," has real meaning in Central Otago, with the lowest rainfall and lowest temperatures of any agricultural region in New Zealand.
